WORCESTER, MA — Worcester's annual spring parking shuffle for street sweeping is here.
The Department of Public Works announced this week spring street sweeping will begin on April 4, which means rolling parking restrictions as the machines make their way through city neighborhoods.
In general, residents will get a one or two day notice that the street sweepers are coming. That will also mean the start of a local parking ban. Residents who leave cars on the street during the ban could get a $50 fine or get towed.
Street sweeping hours will run from about 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on residential streets and will coincide with trash collection days. Neighborhoods where trash collection happens on Fridays will go first, and then street sweepers will progress through the city following the days of the week.
Street sweeping season in Worcester is different from the fall leaf and brush collection period. Street sweepers will be clearing gutters of debris and trash, but cannot pick up organic waste like leaves, according to the city.
